Zaccarias janssen
On December 21, 1595 Zacharias Janssen made an important discovery. Janssen was a Dutch spectacle maker in Holland. He was interested in making tiny objects, look bigger. So, he started to experiment. He used tiny “flea lenses” (used for looking at small insects) and put them into a tube like structure at opposite ends. When he looked through the tube, he discovered something amazing, that the objects were greatly magnified. He had discovered the first “compound” microscope.
This was how the microscope came to life. Even though the life and history of Zacharias Janssen may be a mystery, his invention of the microscope will always be remembered by the knowledge we have because of his discovery.
